Sunny’s Corner Foundation (SCF) is a 501(c)(3)(status pending) Not-For-Profit Corporation dedicated to inspire the development and balance of Life Skills with Fun for young people, K-12 and adults, through education programs, internships, scholarships, and competition in equestrian sports.
We combine the joy of riding with the fulfillment of learning for horses and riders. Developing knowledge, skills, communication, and relationships between horses and riders inspires courage and confidence to be and do their best in each activity, lesson and competition.
Things don’t change. We change.
Go in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
Henry David Thoreau
Young people are the future and the foundation of every great society. This has never been more true for America than it is now. Technology has made the world a smaller, faster place. It’s made information available at lightning speed, and yet, in many ways we are less connected to each other and our environment, and less certain about our future than ever.
We can do research without going to the library. We can read a book without touching the pages. We can communicate with people without talking to them. We can have friends around the world without visiting them. We can take classes without going to school. We can shop without going to the store. We can tweet without talking. We can play music without touching a record or CD. We have social networking without the risk of actually socializing. We can actually play sports without getting off the couch. And, we can even move and get money without going to the bank.
We have instant contact with people, information, and things; and yet we are less connected than ever. Our heads and hands connect with screens and keyboards more than almost anything else, and yet we are increasingly out of touch with each other, and the things that really matter. The physical reality of what really makes us tick and our heart beat faster is seeing and touching living things and the world around us . . . much more so than touch screens, keyboards and game controllers.
Since the 1950’s we have been concerned that TV is babysitting and raising our children. Now we have laptops, PDA’s, and mobile apps to virtually eliminate the need for human contact and our physical surroundings. We are increasingly out of touch, and woefully out of balance. How soon will schools give students credit for P.E. if they have a Wii?
At Sunny’s Corner Foundation (SCF), our heads, our hearts, and our hands are into the physical world of equestrian sports. We are in touch with people, animals, the environment and the physical things that make our world a better place for fun, learning and competition.
We inspire our young clients to strike a balance between: danger and safety; fun and work; learning and application; competition and sportsmanship; disappointment and perseverance; winning and humility; individual responsibility and teamwork; observation and doing; activity and discipline; focus and execution. We keep our heads and hearts clear while getting our hands dirty. We celebrate the natural and historic bond between horse and rider, people and the outdoors.
We may not be able to change the world, but we can transform the lives of our students into well balanced, engaging, mature, responsible, and productive members of society. Yes we can. Our experience guides us, our passion drives us.
At the Foundation, our primary concern is the life balance of our clients; in touch with people, living things and the living world around them . . . . by turning their dreams and aspirations into reality.
We can’t predict the future. But we can create it.
